The largest system, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library system (BECPL), includes the Central Library in downtown Buffalo and more than 35 branch libraries throughout Erie County. There’s much more than books, magazines, and electronic media at our libraries — they’re community centers for education, entertainment, and public forums. There’s no cost to get a library card (identification is required to obtain one, so bring valid ID with you) and one card is good at all libraries in the BECPL system. Other Western New York counties also have library systems (in some cases, they may share resources, as with the Chautauqua- Cattaraugus Library System). In addition, nearly all of our college and university libraries are open for your use as research resources (lending privileges may be limited, however, so please ask).
