Technology Transfer Offices provide support and resources to companies looking to license or commercialize technologies and intellectual property in life sciences disciplines. These offices include: University at Buffalo Office of Science, Technology, and Economic Outreach (STOR) & Roswell Park Technology Transfer Office.
Product Development Funding includes programs that provide funding to companies in Buffalo Niagara that are looking to develop new life sciences products and technologies. These programs include: University at Buffalo Center for Advanced Biomedical and Bioengineering Technology, part of a robust statewide network supporting university-industry collaboration in technology research, education, and technology transfer. Business Development Fund provides seed capital to technology entrepreneurs and start-up companies in Western New York. Applicants may receive an equity investment of up to $200,000 in two phases. Life Sciences Loan Fund provides funding for eligible companies that have a technology product or service that is already substantially developed and expected to generate commercial revenues within 12 months. Small Business Technology Investment Fund provides financial assistance in the form of venture capital for emerging businesses located in New York State with typical investments in the $50k–$300k range with a 3:1 match from other sources.
Seed-Stage Investment Funds include these programs: The Small Business Technology Investment Fund provides early stage high-tech companies throughout New York State with a potential source of venture capital to promote new job creation and economic growth. The Business Development Fund provides seed capital to technology entrepreneurs and start-up companies in Western New York. It was created to help stimulate and support early entrepreneurial efforts. Excell Partners is a regional economic development partnership established in cooperation with the University of Rochester and the State of New York to manage a state-supported fund which provides pre-seed and seed stage financing to high-tech start-up companies in the Upstate New York region. Upstate Venture Association of New York Inc, (UVANY) seeks to advance the number, scale and quality of private equity investments across New York State.
