2008 Events MARCHMarch 19 - Rensselaer Biotechnology Management & Entrepreneurship Video Seminar Series: Dr. Michael Lysaght Michael Lysaght, Ph.D., is a Professor of Medical Science (Research) and Engineering. Michael J Lysaght is the Director of Brown University's Center for Biomedical Engineering. His area of specialization is the therapeutic application of synthetic membranes in hemodialysis, apheresis, and tissue engineering. He also studies and has recently described in several influential publications the complex interplay of technology, economics, and public policy in shaping contemporary and emerging organ-replacement therapies. Join us as the Center of Excellence (B1-306) for Dr. Lysaght's video seminar presentation.

March 27 – Life Sciences Commercialization Lecture Series—Starting and Growing a Life Sciences Company in Western New York 4:00pm – 5:00pm NYS Center of Excellence in Life Sciences & Bioinformatics Our March Life Sciences Commercialization Lecture presentation will be addressing how to start and grow a life science company in Western New York, presented by Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman, a law firm in downtown Buffalo and the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise. This presentation will be over viewing the Life Science Field Guide, developed by LMWF and the BNE. APRIL April 12 - 13 - An Introduction to Biomedical Ontology The NCBO is sponsoring a two-day training event. This serves also as an upper-level undergraduate and first-year graduate course in the University at Buffalo (PHI 499, PHI 599). This course is designed to provide a basic introduction to the field of biomedical ontology and to enhance awareness of current developments and best practices in ontology in the life sciences. Sections will include: 1. What is an ontology and what is it useful for? 2. Reasoning with biomedical data. 3. The ontology of disease. 4. Ontology and the philosophy of science.
