About Grand Island
  •  It's the largest island in the Niagara River.
  • It's approximately 26 miles in circumference, which has made it a fine setting for a marathon.
Grand Island State Parks
  • Grand Island has  two state parks, each with very different attributes from the other.

Buckhorn Island State Park: Is an 895-acre park comprised of marshland, meadows, and woods and has been designated as an Important Bird Area and as a Bird Conservation Area, with many resident and migratory species.

Beaver Island State Park: Is a 950-acre park with a sandy beach for swimming and an adjacent 80-slip marina with recreational activities year round, including cross country skiing, snowmobiling by permit, fishing, hunting, and sledding

Amusement Park (Martin's Fantasy Island). Activities include:

  • Water park, wave pool, and other water fun
  • The Silver Comet
  • Carousel
  • The Cyclone, a new water ride.
  • Shows, including a wild west shootout, a wild west saloon show, puppet shows, and a fairy tale interactive show

Grand Island's extensive waterfront:

  • Five marinas (Anchor Marine, Big Six Mile Creek Marine, Blue Water Marina, Island Marine and River Oaks Marine)
  • An interclub network of boating clubs - Sandy Beach Yacht Club, the Niagara Sailing Club and the Buffalo Launch Club. This latter club was formed in 1903 as the first power boat club in North America, offers memberships and many activities, including boating activities, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. In 1908, it held the first boat show between New York and Chicago. It continues to participate in many area boating activities.

Island Fun Center offers many activities for families and kids, including miniature golfing, race track and batting cages.
 

Bicycle Paths

Grand Island has a bike path that takes walkers and hikers through wooded areas and residential areas, as well as at least one small municipal park.
