As a prelude to a larger, planned expansion,Calspan Corp.    has received an abatement package from the Erie County Industrial Development Agency    for a series of renovations to its Cheektowaga headquarters and operations center.

The Calspan incentive package, which was approved unanimously by the ECIDA directors during their Dec. 19 meeting, will see the company invest $1.05 million in plant renovations plus another $950,000 in new equipment. Calspan hopes to add 10 jobs in the coming year, giving it 215 local workers.

The work comes as Calspan is mulling a 130,000-square-foot expansion to its existing 500,000-square-foot Genesee Street plant. Calspan, this fall, was awarded a $40 million pact from the federal Department of Transportation to conduct auto crash research.

Calspan provides testing, simulations and technology services for the aerospace and transportation industries.
