Wi-Fi Service Lands at Buffalo Airport

Wi-Fi Service Lands at Buffalo Airport
Tuesday, September 27, 2011
In response to passengers using Buffalo Niagara International Airport, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority will soon be adding a free high-speed, Internet service option for travelers using the busy airport.
The NFTA board of commissioners agreed to strike a deal with Advanced Wireless Group LLC of Miami to provide fee Wi-Fi services at the airport. Advanced Wireless was selected from a request for proposal process that saw four firms bid on the Buffalo Niagara International Airport deal. The NFTA has signed a three-year contract with Advanced Wireless that includes a two-year option period.
Under the terms of the pact, the NFTA will receive either a $24,000 annual payment or 30 percent of the gross revenues Advanced Wireless receives from advertising revenues, which ever is greater for the first three years. In the fourth and fifth year, the deal stipulates either a $24,000 annual payment or 45 percent of the gross advertising revenues.
Depending on the payment schedule, the NFTA could receive anywhere from a minimum of $120,000 to $261,000, depending on gross revenue projections.
The service is slated to start on Nov. 1.
