Bassmasters Casting in Buffalo this Weekend

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

The lure of fishing on Lake Erie played a key role in the Buffalo Niagara region hosting hundreds of top anglers for the 2011 Bassmaster Weekend Series.

Top fishermen will be in Buffalo on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 to compete. Winners will be eligible to participate in the National Championship and Bassmaster Classic, set for Shreveport, La. in February.

“This ABA (American Bass Anglers) event represents great economic impact for our community as well as great exposure to our waterfront and natural assets,” said Chuck Giglia, Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission director of sports sales. “We hope the anglers, along with their friends and family, get a chance to not only participate in a great competition, but that they also take some time to experience the great sightseeing opportunities in our community.”

The fishermen will be using the NFTA’s Small Boat Harbor as their base.

Lake Erie and Buffalo was selected because it is the southernmost and smallest of the five freshwater Great Lakes and has an average depth is about 60 feet, perfect for sport fishing officials said. The eastern basin produces trophy walleyes in the summer and excellent smallmouth bass the rest of the season.

American Bass Anglers presents more than 1,100 tournaments annually in 41 states that are designed for the weekend angler.
