A Canadian consulting firm that provides consulting services to Fortune 1000 customers has opted to open an office in downtown Buffalo.

The Business & Technology Resource Group, a Mississauga-based firm, has decided to open an office in the Electric Tower building on Washington Street after seriously considering expanding existing operations it has in Media, Pa., and Easthampton, Mass.

Business & Technology Resource Group will occupy 2,700-square-feet in the Electric Tower building. The firm is expected to hire seven people, initially. The company is investing $450,000 to open the Buffalo office.

A strong pitch led by the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise and assisted by Erie County Workforce Investment Board and the University at Buffalo convinced Business & Technology Resource Group to open the downtown office.

“The support we have received from all aspects of the Buffalo Niagara community has been tremendous,” said Jeff Goddard, Business & Technology Resource Group president.

Business & Technology Resource Group provides Oracle, IBM and Workday consulting services to Fortune 1000 companies around North America.

“Advance professional services continues to be a targeted industry cluster with a great deal of potential for our region as customer demand allows companies like BTRG to continue to expand their footprint and grow their market share,” said Tom Kucharski, BNE president and chief executive officer. “BTRG’s desire to locate here reinforces the value of our marketing and business attraction efforts across Southern Ontario over the last several years. It is further proof that we can make a very compelling case as to why Canadian companies should expand in our region.”

Besides the marketing effort started by the BNE, Goddard said the company was attracted to architectural elements of the 99-year-old Electric Tower.

“Operating in such a wonderful environment sends a tremendous message,” said Rob Kopf, a member of Business & Technology Resource Group’s senior management team and the pointman for the Buffalo office.
