Brand New Steel Company Provides New Job Opportunities

Buffalo, NY - A brand new steel company is setting up shop here in Buffalo and they are looking to hire dozens of people right off the street. The company is Galvstar, LLC and they hosted a job fair on Wednesday.

Galvstar company leaders say they are looking to hire up to 50-people immediately for their process line operator position.

Minutes after the doors opened at the Delevan Grider Community Center Wednesday morning, hundreds of people waited in line with their resumes looking to become one of the dozens of lucky applicants to walk away with a scheduled second interview.

Galvstar company officials say the brand new company will take over the former American Axle building on Delevan Avenue. The company describes itself as a new continuous hot dipped galvanizing facility that will provide flat rolled steel for construction projects among other things. We talked to Howard Rekoon, a Managing Partner of the Company and asked him the all important question. How much is the starting salary?

"The starting hourly salary will be about $17 and hour. We will have benefits package that will include health benefits, life insurance, dental, but then we'll be creating a profit sharing company so everybody will participate in the success of the company," said Rekoon.

Galvstar company officials say they expect to open for business later this summer, and those who get hired are expected to start some time in September.

If you missed the job fair don't worry. You can send in your personal information to Carolyn Bright at the New York State Department of Labor.
