APP Pharma Announces $27.8M Expansion of Grand Island Facility, Creating 90 New Jobs

APP Pharmaceuticals, a manufacturer of injectable pharmaceutical products that are used to treat infections and cancer, recently announced a major expansion at its Grand Island facility.

The $27.8 million expansion will add 13,000 square feet to its 37,000 square foot facility onStaley Road in Grand Island and is expected to create 90 new jobs over the next few years, bringing its total local employment to 665.  The expansion is being triggered by a shift of manufacturing operations from facilities in Illinois and Puerto Rico.

To induce this expansion, for which two other locations (including one in North Carolina) were being considered, APP received a myriad of incentives from several BNE partners.  They have been allocated 2 megawatts of hydropower from the New York Power Authority (NYPA), awarded $1.2 million in tax credits over five years through Empire State Development’s (ESD) flagshipExcelsior Jobs Program, and they will receive $1.19 million in property and sales tax abatements from Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA).  This is yet another example of a strong and coordinated pitch from multiple agencies to attract this investment and its related jobs to Buffalo Niagara.

Some of you may remember that I recently had the opportunity to interview J. Frank Harmon, APP’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.  Click the link below to learn more about this great company and to hear Frank’s perspective on doing business as a life science company in Buffalo Niagara.
