Direct Air, the busiest of the three air carriers at Niagara Falls International Airport, is adding two more warm-weather destinations to its map.
Direct Air officials confirmed the low-cost airline will begin non-stop service between Niagara Falls and San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nassau, Bahamas starting on Nov. 17. The flights will leave and return to Niagara Falls every Friday, Saturday and Monday.
The service is part of Direct Air’s plan to add more destinations from Niagara Falls.
“We have always sought strategic opportunities to expand our presence here to new markets,” said Kay Ellison, Direct Air managing partner.
Since beginning local service four years ago, Direct Air has flown more than 200,000 passengers from Niagara Falls International Airport, with its average plane leaving the airport more than 85 percent full, said Ed Warneck, Direct Air president.
Direct Air flies Boeing 737s from Niagara Falls that either seat 150 or 160 passengers.
“It is Direct Air’s goal to grow the Niagara Falls market through increased frequency and adding new destinations as we have done in our other markets,” Warneck said.
Direct Air flies, from Niagara Falls, non-stop service to such places as Myrtle Beach, Punta Gorda, Fla. and Melbourne, Fla.
