Online Job Ads Increase in Buffalo
Thursday, September 2
The number of jobs advertised via the Internet climbed sharply in Western New York in August, said the Conference Board in a monthly report.
The Buffalo market showed a 26.8 percent jump in available positions last month — 19,300 compared to 15,300 one year ago. New ads increased by 23.4 percent to 12,900 from 10,400 in the year-over-year period.
Rochester saw ads spike 38.7 percent to 16,500 from 11,900 in August 2009. Also, new ads in that metropolitan area improved 33.2 percent to 11,000 compared to 8,300 last year.
Nationally, online advertised vacancies dropped 57,100 in August to 4.23 million following an increase of 139,200 in July, according to The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine Data Series released Sept. 1.
The gap between the number of unemployed and advertised vacancies (supply/demand rate) stood at 3.40 unemployed for every advertised vacancy in July but is down from its peak of 4.73 in October 2009.
