Falls Airport to Make Improvements

Less than one year after it opened, the Niagara Falls International Airport may be getting a second covered jetbridge and walkway.

Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority officials -- the operators of both the Niagara Falls facility and Buffalo Niagara International Airport -- say the second jetbridge and walkway will make it easier for the 68,000-square-foot terminal to secure more charter service and air carriers.

The terminal's anchor carrier, DirectAir, is expected to make an announcement within the next few weeks about adding its fifth destination.

The project carries a $769,472 development price tag, virtually all of it funded through federal dollars.

Ledge Creek Development Inc. of Clarence Center was awarded on Monday a $311,000 contract to handle the project's construction, while American Steel Builders LLC of Indianapolis was awarded a $350,696 contract to build the bridge and walkway.
