Birdair Lands Canada Place Contract

Business First of Buffalo - by James Fink
Birdair Inc. has been retained to replace the sail-fabric roof on the iconic Canada Place structure that dominates the Vancouver skyline.
Amherst-based Birdair installed the original fabric roof when Canada Place was constructed in 1984. The roof repair is expected to be completed next year.
The $21 million project is being funded through Canada's Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key part of the country's Economic Action Plan.
Birdair has designed and will be installing a fiberglass fabric membrane that matches the original five-sail roof design. The material is highly durable and both weather- and fire-resistant. It could have a lifespan of 30 years.
The new roof will encompass some 91,210 square feet of material.
Canada Place welcomes more than 3 million visitors annually. It houses such entities as the Port Metro Vancouver cruise ship terminal, Vancouver Convention Centre East and Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver.
Birdair is a member of the Taiyo Kogyo Group.
