NYS Approves D'Youville Pharmacy Program

D’Youville College has received approval from the state Department of Education to open its planned School of Pharmacy, spokesperson John Bray said Wednesday.

It is one of two approvals necessary to operate the pending program. The Buffalo-based college is also seeking the go-ahead from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

If it is approved, it will become the second pharmacy school in the area, joining the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The college began recruiting students last year to join its pre-pharmacy program, which will feed students into the planned four-year professional pharmacy school.

Officials have said the school will open this coming fall with roughly 65 students enrolled.

Construction of the new $20 million building that will house the pharmacy school is scheduled to wrap up this spring. The six-story building will be dedicated on May 12, Bray said.
