Kemper System Opens West Seneca Facility

A German manufacturer of construction chemical products announced March 1 that it will create a North American production and distribution hub in West Seneca.
Phase One of the project, which involves an investment of more than $3 million by the company, Kemper System Production Inc., has included the recent retrofitting of the 45,000-square-foot building the company purchased last June, installation of equipment, and shifting of certain operations from its Canadian and New Jersey operations.
In the next phase, which Kemper System President Richard Doornink said is expected to be accomplished over the next 18 months and involve the investment of “several million more dollars,” the building will be enlarged 55 percent by constructing 25,000-square-feet of additional space.
Doornink said 15 to 18 jobs are expected to be created before and during the expansion. The present operation has 10 employees, he said.
Company officials from Germany and elsewhere are expected to attend grand opening ceremonies March 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the building in North America Center Industrial Park.
“Right now, the machinery is in and we are getting ready to turn everything on so essentially we can go into production shortly,” Doornink said.
Not only will the site serve as North American manufacturing hub for Kemper System but it also will be the financial and administrative center for the company’s production arm, which includes operations in Mississauga, Ont., and New Jersey.
As part of the consolidation of functions in West Seneca, a small warehouse in Cheektowaga and another in New Jersey were closed, Doornink said.
Kemper is a worldwide leader in roofing, waterproofing and surfacing products that are used on some of America’s most recognized structures such as the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden.
The West Seneca facility will produce roofing, waterproofing and surfacing materials.
