CVB's Canadian Promotion Paying off

CVB's Canadian Promotion Paying off

Halfway through a special winter promotion aimed at the Canadian market, the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau has said it already surpassed initial projections.
CVB officials, Wednesday afternoon, said more than 400 packages have been sold through its "Shopping is Hopping in Buffalo" campaign in the southern Ontario market.
The campaign, which was introduced in November, offered Canadians deeply discounted hotel room night deals. With each package came a $50 shopping voucher, redeemable at a wide number of retail outlets ranging from major malls to neighborhood shopping districts.
"Toronto focus group participants told us they love to shop in Buffalo," said Richard Geiger, Buffalo Niagara CVB president. "They described Buffalo as affordable, accessible and offering great product variety. This promotion confirms what our research suggested - that Buffalo is a very attractive short break and shopping destination for the Ontario market."
The promotion runs through March.
The CVB will be following it up with another marketing campaign later this year, focusing on the region's rich cultural heritage including the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Darwin Martin House, exhibits at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and performances by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
"Southern Ontario has the kind of sophisticated consumers that we feel will be very interested in the cultural experiences we have to offer," Geiger said.
