Below are some examples of cases to demonstrate the benefits of each option. Buffalo Niagara Enterprise recently worked with a Canadian company that has a potential sale in the US making a product for us in the transportation industry. The buyer required that the product be made in the US, the potential sale was too big to pass up, but the long-term sales were not defined. This company chose to form a partnership with a Buffalo-based company that produced a similar, but not identical, product. The new partnership allowed the sale to happen and opens the possibility for a long-term presence. A growing number of companies are approaching Buffalo Niagara Enterprise with the request to enter the market through a purchase. We recently worked with a highly successful Canadian pharmaceutical company to purchase an existing Buffalo-based company. Following the advice of his Canadian-based advisors, this company is bringing new life to a struggling Buffalo-based company. The US entity had the machines, workers and some sales already in place, reducing the time to being producing new product lines. Ultimately the Canadian parent company found an added benefit to this nearby acquisition, ease of management and oversight. Finally, there is the actual physical or mirror expansion. This is a process whereby the Canadian operation sets up a duplicate facility in the US. Examples of this range from distributors to manufacturers to back- office operations. A recent example of this is with a high-tech surveillance company that could not properly service their US based clients. By shifting the servicing of their US based clients. By shifting the servicing of their US-based clients to a facility in Niagara Falls, the company was able to reduce the time their product spent in shipment from 3 weeks to 3 days. To do this the company needed a full-functioning replica of the Canadian operation. |
