Sabres Season-Ticket Renewals at 98%
Aug-06-2010 — The Buffalo Sabres have capped season-ticket sales for the 2010-2011 season as the renewal rate from last season reached 98 percent. The Sabres said they have sold 14,825 season tickets for the coming season, or about 80 percent of capacity at HSBC Arena, which seats 18,690. In addition, there are currently over 1,600 members of the Blue and Gold Club waiting list for season tickets. Prices for season tickets are up 5 percent.
Buffalo Air Traffic Slower, Fares Fly Low
Aug-06-2010 — Route adjustments by several air carriers at Buffalo Niagara International Airport resulted in the facility seeing a drop in passengers during June. According to statistics compiled by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, passenger counts were off 4.28 percent in June and 2.03 percent for the year — both reflections of national trends by airlines to adjust and, sometimes, cut back service.
SUNY Fredonia Incubator Adds Va. Company
Aug-06-2010 — Fredonia State College announced this week that a national wind energy company will locate its regional office at the college’s technology incubator. Virginia-based Apex Offshore Wind LLC will become the 10th tenant to join the facility. It is also the first tenant to join that is not a start-up business
U.S. Foreclosure Woes Not Felt in Buffalo
Aug-06-2010 — Rising foreclosure rates that are plaguing much of the U.S. are not mirrored in the Buffalo area or Upstate New York. A mid-year report released Thursday by RealtyTrac Inc. of California shows foreclosure filings in five Upstate markets — Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse and Utica/Rome — rank at the low end of the 206 markets measured nationwide.

Jul-30-2010 — A drug developed in Buffalo to treat Acute Radiation Syndrome has been granted Fast Track status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Jul-29-2010 — Two top faculty leaders at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) have received a five-year, $2,187,881 National Cancer Institute (NCI) grant to study the antitumor effects of vitamin D on bladder cancer.

Walmart Hiring 350 to 400 people to Staff Lancaster store
Jul-23-2010 — The store, at 4975 Transit Road, north of William Street, is set to open Sept. 15. The majority of the new hires will start working there next month. To help process job applications, Walmart has opened a temporary hiring center at 4779 Transit, just north of French Road.

Solar Power Law Wins Approval of Tonawanda Town Board
Jul-16-2010 — The Tonawanda Town Board approved a solar energy law Monday that also won the approval of a developer with a solar project in the pipeline. “I am very pleased with the final draft and where we stand,” Daniel Montante, a director of TM Montante Development, said after the meeting. The developer’s Riverview Solar Technology Park includes plans for a 50-acre solar farm to generate power for use on site.
Region’s Job Market Seen as Stabilizing
Jul-16-2010 — The Buffalo Niagara region’s job market appears to be stabilizing. The region added a modest number of jobs for the second straight month during June in a sign that the painful job losses that the area endured since the end of 2008 may be a thing of the past.

Dunkirk's Cliffstar sold for $500M
Jul-09-2010 — Cott Corp. of Toronto said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Cliffstar Corp. for $500 million in cash. Cliffstar, located in Dunkirk, is a leader in juice manufacturing. Speculation has existed for the past year that the company, founded more than 100 years ago by Meyer Star, was a target for purchase. In a statement to employees, Chairman Stanley Star said he had mixed emotions about selling the historic juice producer.
NY Fed Manufacturing Survey Stays Upbeat
Jul-09-2010 — The monthly survey of manufacturing activity in New York state was positive for the 11th straight month, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported Tuesday. The index measuring general business conditions was at 19.6 in June, up 0.5 points from May’s reading.
NY Sets up $50M Fund for Small Biz
Jul-09-2010 — A new $50 million Small Business Revolving Loan Fund has been created by New York state, Gov. David Paterson announced Wednesday. The revolving fund is designed to provide capital to minority and women-owned enterprises and entrepreneurs who are having difficulty accessing regular credit markets.

Jul-07-2010 — The number of jobs available via online advertising has surged in Western New York compared to a year ago. Vacancies for the Buffalo and Rochester markets were up 24.9 percent and 42.9 percent, respectively, in June from 2009 levels, according to The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine Data Series released Wednesday.

Donahoe and his wife, Mary Margaret, sold their LeBrun Road home for $1,165,000, according to documents filed in the Erie County Clerk’s office. The home was bought by Barry and Tracey Heneghan.
