Sleep Inn to rise near Medical Campus

Business First - by James Fink
Date: Monday, December 27, 2010

An older independent hotel along Main Street in Buffalo may soon be replaced by a new development, anchored by a 60-room Sleep Inn.

Fouad Bou-Jaude, who owns the Buffalo Tourist Lodge at 1159 Main St., has submitted a proposal to the Buffalo Planning Board for a new hotel/office complex at the same site. The planning board will get its first look at the project when it meets on Jan. 4.

According to documents supplied to the planning board, Bou-Jaude wants to demolish the Buffalo Tourist Lodge and construct a 42,000-square-foot building that will house the 60-room, three-story Sleep Inn, along with a two-story office wing.

Silvestri Architects has been retained to handle the design work.

Bou-Jaude and representatives from Silvestri will be meeting with neighborhood residents on Dec. 30 to give them a sneak preview of their plans.

The building is located between Dodge and Best streets, just a few blocks from the Anchor Bar and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

Pending various Buffalo approvals, construction on the project could start by mid-2011.
