New Era Lands Cap Deal with CFL
Thursday, December 9, 2010
Sports Business ...New Era Cap Co. Inc. has extended its reach with a deal to produce headwear for the Canadian Football League.
The three-year pact begins in January 2011. The Buffalo-based manufacturer gains distribution rights for the brands 59FIFTY and 39THIRTY headwear. Financial terms were not released.
“There are great things on the horizon for the CFL in terms of growth, and we’re excited to be part of it,” said a statement from Rick Baetz, managing director, New Era Canada. “We plan to deliver quality products that will connect with both existing and new CFL fans. This partnership truly reinforces our commitment to the game of football.”
The CFL deal follows an announcement last month that New Era, long the cap provider for Major League Baseball, would be the official on-field cap maker for the National Football League beginning in 2012.
In addition to the pro football contracts, New Era is also the sponsor of the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl, a college football game featuring Syracuse University and Kansas State to be held at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 30.
New Era currently holds over 200 licenses including the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, and other international sports leagues, as well as with organizations like Disney, Marvel and Ali Enterprises.
