Buffalo Niagara Among Top 3 Inexpensive Places To Do Business

The Buffalo Niagara region ranked #3 in a survey of least-costly metropolitan areas to do business among 12 U.S. locations with populations between one and two million people.  The "2010 Competitive Alternatives" study was performed by audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG LLP, and it measured twenty-six significant cost components including labor, real estate/facilities, utilities and transportation.  These factors were measured as they applied to companies in seventeen different industries ranging from manufacturing to research & development and corporate and IT services.

Buffalo Niagara's ranking was driven by strong results in facility, transportation and labor costs.  The availability, skill level and affordability of the workforce in the Buffalo Niagara region have long been a strong selling point for BNE in our business attraction efforts.  This is true going to back to signature project wins like the original GEICO project in 2003 and their expansion project this year, as well as with companies like Citicorp, NuComm International, Linita Design and Electro Sonic.  KPMG officials point out that "the study enables companies to perform a quick scan of jurisdictions to determine which can offer a cost competitive business environment".  If it's a quick scan that puts our region on the radar screen, our BNE staff will be thrilled to pick up the work of attracting a company and coordinating a project that resulted from this positive ranking.
