Yogurt chain coming to Buffalo area

Yogurt chain coming to Buffalo area
by James Fink
Yogen Fruz, the Canadian-based frozen yogurt chain, has targeted Buffalo and the Upstate market for its latest expansion plans.
Yogen Fruz, through its Rochester franchisor, George Traikos, will be opening its first area location in the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence on Saturday, followed by a second location in the Boulevard Mall that’s slated to open on a week later on Sept. 26.
Traikos’ company, YF of Upstate New York, has plans to open 100 Upstate locations during the next five years, including 15 in the immediate Buffalo Niagara region. Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse are his primary markets.
Traikos opened his first Yogen Fruz in Rochester’s Eastview Mall last November.
The two Buffalo stores are expected to employ 24 people on a full- and part-time basis.
The Mississauga, Ont.-based Yogen Fruz has more than 1,100 locations. The chain specializes in low-fat, non-fat and no-sugar-added frozen yogurt products. It offers 16 types of flash-frozen fresh fruit.
