Business First of Buffalo - by Tracey Drury
Roswell Park Cancer Institute has received another federal grant for cancer research.
The $675,000 two-year grant from the National Institutes of Health will support the work of Roberto Pili, MD, chief of the genitourinary section of the department of medicine.
Pili is principal investigator on a study of the role of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors in treating renal cell carcinoma. The study is expected to provide new insights on the role of HDACs in the renal tumor microenvironment, as well as early clinical evidence that combining HDAC inhibitors and molecular targeted inhibitors increases the antitumor effects. The study will also provide the foundation for future clinical trials in RCC patients.
It was the second grant announced this week: Roswell will also receive a two-year, $650,000 grant from NIH to study a novel approach to treating breast cancer with tamoxifen.
