Labatt commemorates Bills' 50th season

by James Fink

Labatt Blue has found a golden opportunity to commemorate the Buffalo Bills’ 50th anniversary season.

Officials from Labatt USA and the Buffalo Bills announced that the beer maker is offering specially marked 16-ounce cans that mark three key moments in the team’s history. The cans, which are sold in 12-packs, come with a special promotion. Labatt has 50 “golden” cans that will offer consumers a chance to win “50” Bills’ prizes including game tickets, jerseys and autographed footballs.

Actually, just 49 “golden cans” remain as one found by Wheatfield resident Dennis Scovazzo, who was presented with his gifts during a Labatt USA/Bills press conference Wednesday afternoon.

The Labatt commemorative cans are being sold in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse markets.

“Beer and football season go hand-in-hand,” said Ryan Daley, Labatt Blue associate brand manager.

The cans mark the 1993 playoff comeback victory over the Houston Oilers, Mike Stratton’s 1964 hit on Keith Lincoln of the San Diego Chargers and when the team was awarded an American Football League franchise in 1959.

“Labatt Blue is a Buffalo favorite and the perfect match for the Bills’ 50th season,” said Bruce Popko, Bills senior vice president of business ventures.
